Tulane is a member of Conference USA in athletics and fields NCAA Division I teams in several sports.
Tulane University's football team went 12-0 in 1998 culminating in a 41-27 victory over BYU in the Liberty Bowl. They finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation, by far their best performance to date. They were led by senior quarterback Shaun King, who in that season set an NCAA record for the highest single-season passing efficiency rating. That record still stands.
